Stephan Birtel

studied Mechanical Engineering with focus on General Mechanical Engineering – specialising in Medical Technology – at the RWTH Aachen University and at the NTNU in Trondheim, Norway. He completed his studies in 2014 with his master thesis at the Institute of Applied Medical Engineering in the Department of Cardiovascular Engineering (CVE) at RWTH Aachen University.

After completing his studies, Stephan Birtel began his training as a patent attorney candidate at the patent law firm Cohausz & Florack in Düsseldorf. The chamber 4 for patent infringement at the Regional Court Düsseldorf (Landgericht Düsseldorf), as well as the German Patent and Trademark Office and the Federal Patent Court in Munich were further stations of his training. In Munich, he successfully passed the German Patent Attorney Qualification Examination in November 2018 and was admitted as a German Patent Attorney. Stephan Birtel is also admitted as European Trademark and Design Attorney before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

Stephan Birtel joined Bauer Vorberg Kayser as patent attorney in April 2019. His focus is on general mechanical engineering, in particular automotive engineering, energy technologies and medical technology. Stephan Birtel advises national and international clients in all areas of intellectual property law, in particular in prosecution and validity proceedings as well as in the enforcement of intellectual property rights in litigation proceedings.

Stephan Birtel speaks German, English and Spanish. In his private life, he enjoys sports and traveling. He plays football, skis and during his many trips to Spain he discovered triathlon and padel as new hobbies.
