Stephan studied electrical engineering and information technology at the Technical University of Munich with focus on electronics, communication technology and semiconductor technology and graduated in 2006.
After working for a medium-sized IT service provider, he completed his patent training at a trans-regional patent law firm. Further stages of his training were the Patent Chamber of the District Court of Mannheim, the CEIPI (Center d’Études International de la Propriete Industrielle),
the German Patent and Trademark Office and the Federal Patent Court accompanied by studies of general law, i.e. “Law for Patent Attorneys” at the University Hagen. In 2010, Stephan was admitted as a German patent attorney and as a representative before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The following year he was admitted as a representative before the European Patent Office.
Stephan has been working as patent attorney in private practice since 2010 and was a partner and managing partner of a trans-regional patent law firm from 2012 to 2018.
In the beginning of 2019, Stephan joined the patent law firm Bauer Vorberg Kayser. Stephan advises national and international clients with regards to patent application- prosecution and validity proceedings as well as regarding the enforcement of patents in litigation proceedings. His technical focus lies in the fields of electrical and mechanical engineering, particularly on electronics, measuring and sensor technology, actuators and medical engineering. Stephan’s expertise also covers trademark applications and prosecution as well as opposition and nullity proceedings. He counsels clients with regards to IP-related contracts and in developing effective IP strategies.
